Our Story
Twenty-three years in the making.
Payon DentiCare began in 2003, helping Australian dental practices offer their patients manageable payment plans. Over two decades, it grew into a national operation managing more than $620 million in annual transactions across a network of more than 2,100 practices.
In 2012, capital and expertise were introduced to restructure and scale the business. The group continued reinvesting in infrastructure, capability and future growth. Techyon was established to develop the technology supporting the group's payments and financial infrastructure, with close ties to Singapore's fintech ecosystem.
Payon Capital was established to support the group's capital strategy — holding an Australian Financial Services Licence and Australian Credit Licence — and to provide eligible wholesale investors with access to the group's operating returns.
Today, Payon Group operates across healthcare payments, financial services, capital and fintech technology — in Australia and internationally.

Payon Group is led by David Cathie, co-founder of Payon DentiCare in 2003 and the architect of the group's growth across Australia, New Zealand and Southeast Asia. The senior team brings decades of experience in healthcare payments, financial operations and regulated investment management.

David Cathie
Co-founder of DentiCare in 2003, with more than 24 years of executive leadership across healthcare and medical sectors in Australia, New Zealand and Southeast Asia. David has played a central role in developing the broader Payon ecosystem, which now manages more than $620M in annual payment-plan transactions. His focus spans strategic leadership, regulatory compliance, privacy, data security and continued fintech development.
Director & CFO
Ghafur Barchia
A Chartered Accountant who first became involved with DentiCare as a strategic adviser in 2014, became CFO in 2022 and Director of Payon Capital in 2026. His experience spans accounting, taxation, mergers and acquisitions, capital raising, funds management, private equity, corporate governance, capital efficiency and risk management.
Director & Fund Manager
Charles Smith
Joined DentiCare in 2021 and holds a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Accounting and Finance. His role spans financial reporting, investment-focused analysis, governance and the financial insight required to support continued growth and scale.
Chief Product Officer
Jessica Pearse
Holds a Master of Financial Technology from UNSW and leads product development across regulated financial technology and payments. Her remit includes regulated consumer lending, multi-rail payment orchestration, payment-facilitator capability, credit assessment, identity verification, AML/CTF controls, product strategy, and technology and commercial delivery.
